Motorcycle Industry Awaits the Approval of Cabinet

As the motorcycle industry faced the ban of carburetor motorcycles production, their production fell by 85 percent and now they must deal with the ban of production of the motorcycles that do not have euro 4 standard.
Khodrocar - Since the beginning of 1396, the production of carburetor motorcycles has been banned to replace them with injector engine motorcycles. Due to this law, the National Standard Organization of Iran and the police are not allowed to plate these motorcycles.

This sudden decision reduce the motorcycle production rate by 85 percent.

Now, in the beginning of the year 97, euro 3 motorcycles are not allowed to produce and the companies should improve their standards to Euro 4. That means a new challenge for the companies. They were busy producing injector engine motorcycles that they faced a new challenge called: Euro 4 standard. A 10-month opportunity has been given to those companies that are not able to produce Euro 4 motorcycles.

Bahman Zia, secretary of Motorcycle Industry’s Forum tells Khodrocar: The engines of our motorcycles was imported from India and China. So, we were unable to produce injector engines. That was a big and costly challenge for us and was the reason 85 percent fall in production.

He continues: The companies were dealing with this challenge and succeeded to produce injector engines but there were no acceptance from customers because they are not reach people and do not want to try new technologies. Now we are facing a new challenge which is called: Euro 4 standard.

Secretary of Motorcycle Industry’s Forum emphasizes: According to the correspondences with Department of Environment, it was promised that in the process of upgrading the motorcycles from Euro 3 to 4 and we discussed that this industry needs time to reach the new standards but unfortunately it was government’s approval and our correspondence was useless because the approval could not be changed. Also we had some correspondence with First Vice-President, Eshaq Jahangiri in order to give motorcycle companies more time to Increas their standards.

At the end, he mentioned that motorcycle industry is in a bad situation. Many producers are working with their money and interest in this field and we need support from the government. We hope that the government accept this 10 month deadline, so the producers have time to reach the new standards in in the future ten months.
